Biology 11

Biology 11 was a interesting course to take. There were some surprising concepts that I never gave much thought about before until today, but the main concepts I learned about in Biology 11 was the constant evolution of aquatic organisms to organisms adapted to land and the challenges they had to face there like aquatic plants to land and aquatic animals to land. Around the beginning of the course we started off learning about the theory of evolution from Lamark and Darwin, natural selection, and the evidence of organisms having possible common ancestors. I forget most of the order after that but we did learn about microbiology, such as protist, and taxonomy. Out of all the subjects we have covered in this class I enjoyed learning about kingdom animalia the most. I like animals and I have a lot of pets so it was fun to know all the body parts and what was special about each one. Though when it came to Arthropods I now know the names of all the parts of their body I'm squishing the next time I see a bug. The last subject we covered was plantae in which we learned about their transition from water to land and adaptations. What i would have done differently in this class would be the way i study. Maybe next time i'll use flash cards instead of just reading from the text book.

This is a picture of a moon jellyfish from phyla Cnidarian. They are called moon jellyfish because of the 4 moons in the middle and in my opinion they seem to glow like the moon as well. I found this class interesting because not only are they beautiful and come in all sorts of colours and sizes, they can be deadly side as well with their stingers (nematocysts)

Arthropod and the dead leaf butterfly

the 3 distinct characteristica of arthropods would be thier exoskeletons, jointed appendages and having a segmented body
The dead leaf butterfly is famous for it's realistic immitation of a leaf for camoflage when it's wings are closed. As you can see in the photo above it resembles a dead leaf. When the butterfly's wings are open....(in the photo below).

Squid dissection (cephalopod)

What I found most interesting about this animal was it's ability to change color and blend with it's suroundings to survive, and thier means of escape from danger by releasing ink as a distraction.

In the world squids can feed on plants, animals, and maybe even have symbiotic relationships with algae or parasites. Some animals prey on them as a primary source of food. We humans eat them aswell
